RELEASING POTENTIAL

Our aim at NAYC & ACUK is to release potential every person who walks through our doors. We see something in everybody and know that there is always space and time to learn and grow. Which is why we truly believe given the right activities, the right time, and the right environment anyone can achieve their full potential.

Residential Learning Outcomes

Separate to the activity learning outcomes, the residential experiences also lends itself to its own learning outcomes such as Social interaction, Time management, Independent thinking all while promoting good mental health.

We start this process through our available programmes. All our programmes are designed to achieve three main objectives.

‘Aspiration, Belief in Self and Others and Joy’

We believe that everything we do on our site should come with these three main goals in mind. Aspiration – For others to aspire to be anything and do anything that they want regardless of background or previous thoughts and abilities.

Belief in self and Others – For others to look at themselves and believe that they can try new things and can achieve their goals. We encourage to look towards others and believe in them for motivation.

Joy – To ultimately enjoy the experience. To learn to love the journey and have a great time while also feeling empowered. To come away from this experience with a smile on their face and the self-efficacy to approach new situations with a positive outlook.

Team Building
Resilience
Physical Challenge
Connection to nature
Social awareness

These are the key learning objectives that we aim to reach in each of our sessions. Some sessions will tick all the boxes, and some will aim to focus in on each objective. The idea is that you can use these to base your sessions around. To understand what the number 1 aim is within that session.

An example would be Abseiling and Zip Wire. We know that we want to release potential in all our sessions and aspire, promote belief in self and others and have fun on the session. But with Abseil and Zip wire specifically we are promoting that sense of resilience in the face of something scary. That ability to keep trying and persevere.

Team Building – working together to complete a task, challenge, or activity. Introducing Communication, listening, leadership and patience.

Resilience – To push yourself and go further than you think you can. Never giving up in the face of fear, finding self-belief or confidence to push past the limits.

Physical Challenge – A level of activeness or exercise for the participant to enjoy.

Connection to nature – The core learning of our environment, and the world around us.

Social awareness – The empathy to feel for others or understand what others may be feeling in different experiences. Encouraging others or consoling others.

We can then go one step further. Below this we can choose a subject that may carry throughout the session a smaller subject that doesn’t incapsulate the session but something that can be looked at and worked on. Examples such as fear management or confidence both come under the resilience Headline. Or Listening and Communication which both come under the Team Building Objective.

These smaller subjects can help you achieve the Learning objective of that session. Be creative and use discussions, games or a small activity to frame this before the session and then look back at the end of the session to see how we may have used it. Did it help us achieve our learning objective for the session?
